Tudor name originates in a royal dynasty of the 12th century which left a trace in the English History.
It is to give homage to this period that Hans WILSDORF (founder and owner of the Rolex house) decided in 1936 to offer a little sister to the one most prestigious clock making houses by repurchasing the mark created by Isaac BLUMENTHAL in 1906.
So, this is not a fate if the logo will be initially a pink in 1973 to take the shape of armor.
Although the mark was created in 1926 and that the first models appeared in 1930, 1950 should be waited until to see Tudor offering to the world the models Oyster Prince and Princess, which profit from two technologies of Rolex, namely the Oyster sealing and the Perpetual Rotor, which confer on the two models an undeniable reliability.
The Tudor watches had the same diameters then as the Rolex watches, i.e. 13mm, 17mm, 19mm and 20mm. The great difference will be the movement. Indeed, the first models will be not equipped with Rolex movements but with ETA movements.
In 1960, the Tudor House launches the model Prince Submariner which sealing is not any longer to prove. Success was fast and the model was used by the French National marine like by US Navy.
The clock making house Tudor always has had a strong relationship with the performance, and more particularly with the automobile sport. According to a cause and effect relation, in 1971, the model Tudor Oyster Goes back taken name to “Chrono Porsche” by passionate persons.
Since 1990 Tudor affirms its personality while profiting from Rolex technology. Gradually, the models are detached from the prototype Rolex by giving rise to sporting and smart models.
Even if the clock-making house Tudor always benefitted from its direct relationship with the famous clock-making house Rolex, the prices of the models being less important than the models of the head office, and instead of the mark Rolex, the mark Tudor was very quickly distributed in many countries.
Today, Tudor is present in Switzerland, China, Italy, Spain, Singapore, India, France, Mexico, Venezuela, the Caribbean, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada, Brazil like with the Benelux countries. However, its remains rather regrettable that the mark is still not distributed to the United States.
It as should be announced as being always attached at Rolex, Tudor profits from its prestigious after-sale services.
The year 2009 sees being born the watches collection “Grantour” and this same year, the Tudor house divides officially a partnership with the Porsche car manufacturer. Brilliant future in the world of the sporting and smart time-keeper is registered then for the Tudor mark.
