Après avoir fait parler de lui de part sa conception, TECHNOGRAPH n’en finit pas de surprendre. On l’a découvert très technique, puis, au fil des ans, on a redécouvert son cadran habillé des matériaux les plus fous : lézard ou peau de python, ardoise… Aujourd’hui, Paul Picot relève un nouveau défi et dévoile à Bâle une innovation technique : Le nouveau TECHNOGRAPH s’enrichit d’un système complexe d’affichage du temps par disques rotatifs, rendant la lecture des heures encore plus originale.
Si les formes généreuses du boîtier TECHNOGRAPH restent inchangées pour un ensemble moderne et avant-gardiste, l’astucieux système de deux cadrans superposés a subi une profonde révolution. Pour rappel, sur le modèle original, les heures et les minutes s’affichent sur le cadran central supérieur fixé au centre du garde-temps. Les secondes du temps réel ainsi que les minutes du chronographe sont affichées quant à elles sur le cadran inférieur, dans deux petits compteurs en demi-lunes, fonctionnant avec un ingénieux système d’aiguilles à deux longueurs.
Un affichage du temps inédit
La Société des Montres Paul Picot, fière de l’originalité et de l’effet obtenu par cet affichage inédit du temps ne pouvait toutefois pas en rester là. Il fallait trouver une évolution technique digne du TECHNOGRAPH, qui en l’espace de quelques années s’est fait un nom parmi les garde-temps d’exception. Le défi étant d’y intégrer un nouveau cadran au décor « clou de Paris » encore plus technique sans altérer ni la finesse de son design ni les codes qui ont fait son succès. Si l’idée peut sembler simple, sa réalisation a demandé la plus grande attention et un engagement total des Maîtres Horlogers de la Maison. Le résultat est saisissant d’élégance et d’originalité. Les aiguilles des compteurs en demi-lune on été remplacées par des disques fins, affleurés au cadran inférieur. Chacun de ces disques est bi-color, celui placé à 9 heures étant jaune et bleu, l’autre à 3 heures étant rouge et noir. Chaque disque dispose de deux flèches opposées, l’une dirigée vers l’extérieur, l’autre vers l’intérieur, le scindant parfaitement en deux entre ses couleurs. Le pari est gagné, Paul Picot à préservé l’identité du TECHNOGRAPH en le faisant évoluer subtilement par une belle prouesse technique. Les 30 premières secondes du temps réel s’écoulent maintenant en jaune, à l’aide de la flèche dirigée vers l’intérieur ciblant les chiffres de 0 à 30 gravés sur le cadran inférieur. La deuxième flèche du disque, dirigée elle vers l’extérieur, prend ensuite le relais pour l’écoulement des 30 secondes suivantes, en bleu cette fois-ci. Le principe est le même pour les minutes du chronographe : les 15 premières minutes s’écoulent en noir au travers de la flèche dirigée vers l’extérieur du disque, les 15 suivantes en rouge avec la flèche pointant vers l’intérieur. De conception très complexe, ce nouveau système de lecture du temps offre une excellente lisibilité des compteurs. Un savoir-faire horloger que Paul Picot met au service des passionnés. Enfin, l’originalité de ce cadran trouve son aboutissement dans un système breveté d’affichage du quantième dans un guichet où la date du jour est toujours indiquée en rouge, alors que les jours précédents et suivants sont affichés en gris.

Paul Picot, fidèle à sa philosophie de la Noblesse du détail, présente au travers du TECHNOGRAPH DISCOTIME une pièce raffinée et vivante de part le subtil jeu de couleurs qui anime son cadran. While the generous dimensions of the TECHNOGRAPH case remain unchanged with a modern and avant-garde presentation, the astute system of two superimposed dials has undergone a far-reaching change. On the original model, the hours and minutes are displayed on the upper central dial, mounted in the centre of the timepiece. The real time seconds and the chronograph minutes are shown in turn on the lower dial in two small half moon-shaped counters, working with an ingenious system of hands of two different lengths.
A new way of showing the time
Proud of the originality and effect obtained by this entirely new way of showing the time, Société des Montres Paul Picot wanted to go one step further. The aim was to find a technical evolution worthy of the TECHNOGRAPH which, in the space of just a few years, has made a name for itself among exceptional timepieces. The challenge was to incorporate a new and still more technical dial with a “clou de Paris” décor, without impairing the subtlety of its design or the codes which were the key to its success. While the idea may seem simple, its implementation called for the utmost care and a total commitment by the master watchmakers of the House of Picot. The result reveals astonishing elegance and originality. The hands of the half moon-shaped counters have been replaced by fine disks mounted flush with the lower dial. Each of these disks has two different colours: the disk at 9 o’clock is yellow and blue and the second at 3 o’clock red and black. Each disk comprises two opposing arrows, one facing outwards and the other inwards; a perfect division of the disk into two parts between the colours is obtained in this way. Paul Picot has successfully risen to the challenge and preserved the identity of the TECHNOGRAPH, while taking a subtle step forwards thanks to a superb technical prowess. The first 30 seconds of real time now unfurl in yellow, with the arrow facing inwards pointing to the numerals from 0 to 30 engraved on the lower dial. The second disk arrow, this time facing outwards, then takes over for the next 30 seconds, this time in blue. The same principle is followed for the chronograph minutes: the first 15 minutes are shown in black by means of the arrow facing outwards on the disk and the next 15 in red with the arrow pointing inwards. With its highly complex design, this new system for showing the time makes the counters extremely easy to read. Paul Picot has placed its watchmaking expertise at the service of connoisseurs. Last but not least, the originality of this dial culminates in a patented system for date display in the window in which the day’s date is always highlighted in red, while the previous and following days are displayed in grey.
